There Once was a council of gods. This council was called the Tsukurite. The Tsukurite's most supreme god was named Tsuki-no-kami, and Tsuki-no-kami wanted to create beauty. To satisfy his creative impulse, he created Hachima, also known as the Base world. On Hachima, Humans were made whole, with full souls. The other gods of the council grew jealous of Tsuki-no-kami's creation and copied his idea.
These other worlds were not as good as Hachima, and as the other gods were weaker, the creatures here, universally known as the Akki race, had incomplete half-souls. To fill the empty space where the rest of their soul should be, the gods put in magic. This magic was the would-be souls of Iron rocks, and when they realized the soulmagic wanted to reunite with Iron, they took the metal away from the Akki worlds. The Akki could now work their magic, as long as they were not near Iron, as the magic would escape them and leave them feeling empty.
The gods also made the keys that allowed each world to be connected to one another. In short, a Slavetrader found the key of Hachima long after the Tsukarite had been forgotten by Humans, and, having Iron chains, took some slaves back from the other world. One of the slaves was a nobleman, and this upset caused a great war to start, known as the Hachima Wars, as all battles took place on this base world. The Humans continue to slavetrade, just as the Akki have emotional slaves, as Akki feed off of emotions.
The Setting is Steam/Clock punk Victorian era. Enjoy!
