Click, click, click, the clocks a tickin’ and Billy’s taken too long. What’s got him? Send him to the river down the trail, figured he’d be ok. Can’t think of anyone with an urge to bump him off; that is unless he’s been drinkin’ money from Al. That would be bad, not just for Billy but yourself.
“What’s takin’ so long, Archer?” You jump, covered in sweat, and look at Miss Emma. “Dunno,” you murmur, sucking idly on your cigarette. It unusual for Billy’s girl to come along. You sit for several minutes in the car, thinkin’ to yourself and than you hear another click but it don’t belong to no clock. You turn a fraction of an inch to look in the mirror and than a loud noise and than nothin’. You just got a look at the gun’s muzzle before your head went all applesauce.
“Sorry Archer, really liked you. Really liked Billy too. But a girl’s gotta live and a girl’s gotta dance. And Al pays for real nice shoes,” Emma says coolly, tucks the pistol in her bag and steps out of the car, slamming the door behind her with just enough force for you to topple over in the front seat. She walks around the call that is now your coffin and carefully steps over the bleeding Billy J. “Billy, you bleed too much,” she says, than walks to the other side of the street right into Al’s car.
--“This is Chicago, baby, we play a different game here.”
CHICAGO, 1920 !
Welcome, welcome to Speakeasy. We staffers welcome you. This is Chicago, dolls, and this ain’t no picnic either. You probably know of the gangsters and prohibition, bootleggin’ and speakeasys. And we ain’t gonna lie, there’s plenty of that on Speakeasy. Actually, in truth, most of the site is based on that. Plus the nightlife! Gotta love the nightlife!
Racism! Women! Fame! Flappers! Racism! Prohibition! Economics! Organized Crime! Government! Entertainment! (good and bad) Technology! Superstition! Fashion! Art! Architecture! Movies and Music!
Face all the problems that real 1920’s individuals faced! All with your own character! Make a gangster, make an actress; be famous, make a drunkard. A hobo! A teacher! Anything that you can think of. But also keep in mind, all of these things will come to a head. All of these things that you decide will play a major role with your character. You become famous, you risk the chances of murder, kidnapping, and losing your fame through one mix-up. You become a government official, you have to worry about espionage, corruption and the ever present pressure of the people you govern. It’s all a bit shady if you ask me. But who ever said Chicago wasn’t shady?
